The Lab

Progenitor & Stem Cells

We use infant mesenchymal stem cells to reveal how prenatal exposures affect epigenetic programming, mitochondrial metabolism, and muscle and adipose development.

Early‑Life Biology

We study how stress, nutrition, chemical exposures, and social experiences during pregnancy shape newborn traits, from gene expression to mitochondrial integrity to adiposity.

Precision Health & Prevention

Our goal is to identify biomarkers and mechanistic pathways that inform more individualized prenatal care and early interventions for the prevention of obesity and metabolic disease.

Our work focuses on mesenchymal stem cells that we culture from umbilical cord tissue of newborn infants. My lab uniquely applied this model to understand why some children are predisposed to develop obesity or insulin resistance.
